How to stop iTunes from automatically playing downloaded music files?

I'm using Chrome

The problem is that iTunes automatically plays every mp3 I download. I want to stop this.

I have tried disabling open safe files on safari but this did not work I'm using macOs Mojave 10.14

To clarify, I don't want iTunes to open an mp3 when it is downloaded into my computer. I want to open it at a later time.

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14

Where are they downloading to? iTunes shouldn't be playing files on download. It will import content downloaded into the Automatically add to iTunes folder, but again doesn't play it. Importing m3u playlist files on the hand can cause them to play.

Hmm, seems like this might an orphaned feature in Chrome. I see talk of changing auto-open options in settings, but I don't have any auto-open options.
