I never wear my watch to sleep. Are the calories burned keeping alive during the night included on my watch when I look at totals for the day? Or just the ones while wearing the watch?

I don’t think you understood me. When I had a FitBit and put it on first thing in the morning, a certain number of calories would already be on it to reflect the amount I probably burned during the night sleeping. My watch shows 0 in the morning for calories burned, as it resets itself at midnight and I have not been wearing it all night. So, once I put it on for the day, at the end of that day will it have taken into account those calories used sleeping or only the ones while actually wearing the watch during the day? Thank you.
If you wear your Watch at night it will take in calories. As these are active calories you will not see hardly any unless you have an active night. You need to wear the Watch to record any thing. So if you are not wearing it you will 0. Try wearing in and see what happens.
No the calories are not included unless you are wearing the Watch.
I would suggest you Press the crown and side button in untill rhe Apple logo appears. And also Check your Watch is updated to 5.2 and your iphone is running ios 12.2
Thank you Randy. I thought this was the case but I am careful not to assume based on thoughts.
Glad you are sorted. Come back if you have any other questions
