Missing one AirPod and I am unable to use the 'mute left' or 'mute right' option

I am only missing one Airpod and I am unable to use the 'mute left' or 'mute right' when using Find my iPhone. Any help?

You cant lock AirPods to track them if they are out of bluetooth range.
