iPod touch how to shuffle by artist

When I'm using iPod touch 6th generation in my car, I want to shuffle music by artist...not by song. with my old iPod (it was at least 10 years old)...I could have the iPod randomly shuffle by artist and when I found a song and album I wanted to hear more of I turned off shuffle on my dash controls and it would continue playing the next songs by the artist on the listed album until I reselected random/shuffle. How do I get iPod touch 6th gen to do this...all i seem to be able to do is have the iPod shuffle by song...when i turn off shuffle it just picks the next song alphabetically (it doesn't play the next song by the artist on the listed album)....i cannot have it keep the artist...help me :(
