Changing AppleID

I'm about to change my appleid, but before I do that I have a couple of questions.

Once I've made the change (rename) I know that I have to sign out and sign in again on all my devices using icloud, itunes, imessage etc..

I assume that all of my purchases will still be available on the new/renamed appleid?
I also assume that the balance(redeemed gift cards) in my iTunes account is still there?

Can someone please confirm and also warn me of any other issues that I might have overlooked?

Sign out before changing the ID. That usually helps prevent problems.

Thanks for the advice and comments. I'll sign out on all of my devices except on my Mac, perform the change of appleid on the Mac and then sign back in on my devices. Sounds like a good plan. Thanks again, Eric.
