fax shows up as printer

My Epson printer is also a fax. I added it as a fax, it showed "Kind" as "EPSON FAX", and it shows an icon of a fax. But it shows up under "Printers", not "Faxes", and so when I "print" to it, it doesn't ask for the recipient's number and the job just disappears. How can I force MacOS to know it's a fax?
