Split View on iPad running ios 12

Running iPad using IOS 12. Split view works with all Apple apps EXCEPT when "Settings" is running. I have reset the Multitasking toggle switch and restarted the iPad to no avail. Am reluctant to reset the iPad, as too many settings would be effected. Curious as to why this is happening only when Settings is running.

iPad Pro, iOS 12

Hi, Psame,

It sounds like you might be wanting to multitask using settings with another app open at the same time. I’ve tried that, and ran into that same difficulty. But while it doesn’t seem to work with Split Screen, you can still multitask with Slide Over, instead.

Open Settings; then open another app, as you did with Split View. Now, you have access to the two screens, as you did in Split View.

Seems you might have to have Settings open first to have this work..

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply, rbrylawski. Settings used to work in split view, but no longer. I have not found any reference to such a change in IOS 12, but I suppose it is possible. Rather frustrating when trying to follow instructions in Safari for changes that need to be made in Settings. Perhaps it is time to call Apple Support.

I'm not sure what you mean. I can run any app that works in split view with the settings app open behind the other app. What I can't do is running settings in multitasking and my guess the reason for that is, you don't want to accidentally screw up a setting that you need for the other app in which you are working, so the settings app becomes unusable in split view.

In other words, i can launch settings and then launch an app in multitasking. Settings is literally showing in the background on the screen, but it does not work. However, if I open any other app, and then try to launch settings in split view, it won't work and I think its for the reason that I stated, but that is just a guess. Settings opens up to the full screen.
