IPhone XR screen malfunctions

My brand new iPhone XR has a problem where every so often the screen jumps around very erratically and it selects items for it self. For example my phone app was open on the 'recently called' page and it started glitching and it kept calling the top number on my recently called list. I was not able to stop it as the screen was not responsive. Eventually i was able to power down the device and upon restarting the problem seemed to be resolved, only to keep happening again and again a few times a week at least.

Any one else has had this happen to them or know how to fix it permanently?
