Open Water Swimming

I have attempted to record my open water swims om 3 occasions and never have successfully managed to record.

I open the Workout App, select Open Water Swim and start the activity, however nothing has ever recorded.

It works perfect in Indoor Swimming.

Any suggestions.

Some times the gps does always pick up a signal in open water.

had 3 attempts and its never picked it up at all. How can Apple claim the app does Open Water Swim and the GPS doe snot work. Surely that against trading standards selling something that does not do what they claim. Or s its Apple do we have to accept it or buy a Garmin...

If you ready the article it states

Open Water Swim: GPS will only provide distance when you do a freestyle stroke. Water might prevent a heart-rate measurement, but calories will still be tracked using the built-in accelerometer.
