Cannot add .wav file to iTunes

I was sent a .wav audio file by email. I am able to listen to it on my MacBook, but I am not able to convert it to mp3 (or aac). I have found many simple instructions on how to convert .wav to MP3, but for some reason, the .wav file simply won't add to iTunes! I've dragged it, I've "sent" it, I've "added" it using iTunes, but nothing works. I've done a search in iTunes for it (thinking it might be hidden someplace), but alas! It's simply not there.

How do I add a .wav file to iTunes so that I can then convert it to an mP3??????

Try Repair security permissions for iTunes for Mac - Apple Community. It is also possible that the file is in a bitrate/depth that iTunes doesn't support. Drop a copy into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder inside your media folder. If it gets pushed into a Not Added subfolder you will know for certain that iTunes doesn't like it.
