What is the best way to get my files off of my iPad Pro and into my Windows laptop, or external hard-drive my pc can access?

I have decided to return my iPad Pro to Costco, after many days of trying to figure out how to use it. I think I am too used to the Android and Windows systems. I am so disappointed that I can’t keep this as there are many things I love about it. The most bothersome thing for me is the confusing file organization. I am used to downloading and finding files easily, but the way iOS does things leaves me baffled. I am in no way knocking Apple products. I realize that it’s my inability to adapt that is the main problem here. I can’t even figure out how to get my downloaded files to transfer to my Windows 10 laptop. I’ve tried the apps Transfer and Shareit and managed to send a few photos, but then the transfer stopped and I could not get it work again. I’m sorry this is so wordy... Thank you in advance for any advice.

There is, also, Google Drive/Google Photos.

As much as I loathe Google anything, Google has the best free online, offsite data storage space size data free 15 GBs of data storage for Google Drive/Photos.

For $1.99/per month, you can get 100 GBs of Google Drive/Photos space giving you a total of 115 GBs of offsite data storage space.

DropBox has no such paid monthly tier and DropBox’s free tier is a measley 2 GBs of free data storage.

I finally left DropBox well over a year ago.

And Apple iCloud is a syncing service and NOT a true data storage/backup service.
