scanning problems after latest update

I have just updated to Mojave 10.14.5 and my lexmark mb2546 printer is no longer able to send scan data, I get an error message that "an error occurred communicating with the scanner (-9923) I have looked this error up and have deleted my printers from system prefs and reinstalled them but the message is still there. I am able to print without any problem so I know its not a communication problem per se, and the scanner button is present in sys prefs so I know the mac thinks it can scan from the Lexmark but no scanning is possible

Hello roonz,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that after updating to macOS Mojave, you can no longer scan from your Lexmark printer. If you are in the United States, the following article from the Lexmark website has some helpful information about scanning which you may find useful:

Lexmark United States How to Print, Scan, and Fax Using Mac OS X 10.7 – 10.11 and macOS 10.12, 10.13 or 10.14

Best Regards.

It does not appear that Lexmark has made a macOS compatible driver for the mb2546 since Yosemite (10.10), and that could be a partial issue for your scan problem. The last combined printer/scanner driver update for Yosemite was released in April 2018. There is also a March 2019 firmware update at the link for this device. Release notes.

Can you use Image Capture to drive the scanner facility?
