Can't Add Wireless Printer

Hi.

I have a Kyocera Ecosys P5021cdw wireless laser printer that I used over AirPrint from my MacBook Pro and my iPhone and iPad.

My MacBook Pro unfortunately recently died so I had to replace it with the current Mac mini model. On the new Mac (fresh install of latest version of Mojave), I can't add the printer, although its visible from the Bonjour Printer List. When I click "add printer", it tries to configure the printer, but fails by reporting "Unable to verify the printer on the network".

Printing from my iOS devices continues to work, so the printer is fine.

I have installed the Kyocera printer drivers.

I have also tried to reset the printing system, but no effect.

Please help! Thanks!

If you can't print from your Mac or iOS device - Apple Support

If you still can't print, try any of these solutions:

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router. Then restart your printer.
  • ...

Try that.

Thanks.

I did all the steps as advised.

  • Rebooted the WiFi router
  • Deleted all existing printers
  • Tried to re-install the Kyocera printer as AirPrint printer (as a matter of fact, I tried all available options)
  • I also reset macOS' printer system

But the result continues to be the same error (see screenshots)

a) Mac mini finds printer and automatically suggests Secure AirPrint as connection mode

b) Mac mini tries to install printer

c) "Unable to verify printer on your network"-error

d) When clicking "continue" on the error message

e) final outcome (fail)

Update, but no success yet:

My impression was, that the Mac mini simply doesn't recognize the Kyocera's drivers (which I freshly downloaded from the official website). So I tried again to install them by first uninstalling, then re-installing them. However, when trying to uninstall the official Kyocera drivers, the uninstaller actually couldn't find any installed drivers. Very strange. So perhaps a compatibility issue?

Next I tried this work-around with Kyocera's Linux PPD drivers, but still the same error message: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Install+Drivers+on+current+versions+of+macOS/113660

Is there any way to check which printer drivers are installed on macOS? Thanks

Follow the instructions I provided, under "If your printer is AirPrint-enabled". When adding the printer again, be sure to add it as an AirPrint printer. Remove any other drivers you may have installed for that printer. No drivers are required. Do not download any. Do not install any.

Be sure to restart your router because it comprises an fundamental link in the communications chain between the printer and your Mac.

I don't know why it's not working for you. As far as I can determine you're not doing anything wrong.

Remaining causal factors could include your wireless router's or access point firmware, or the communications protocol it uses. I suggest contacting the printer's manufacturer and soliciting their help, but I strongly suggest limiting any discussion to determining the reason AirPrint is not working.

Downloading and installing any Kyocera printer drivers is almost certain to be a waste of time. Although Mojave will respect and can use printer drivers already installed prior to upgrading, attempting to install them anew in Mojave will usually fail.
