Using the 12W charger all the time on fast charge supported devices.

It’s a pretty common idea among most of us that using fast charging all the time isn’t the best practice for battery health longevity right? It is safe of course but using the lower wattage 5W charger would produce less heat when charging, thus a longer lasting battery.




Since the newer iPhones support fast charging, wouldn’t it make no difference or have no difference of effect if you use the 12W charger all the time right?




(Also yes I know every 2+ years we change our phones but I just want an actual discussion about this, see some others insights.)

Assuming a compliant device, the practical difference between slow chargers or fast charge with a USB-C charger is the cost of the extra power adapter, and the number of coffees you can drink while it charges. You are unlikely to detect any difference in overall battery lifetime because Apple configured the fast charge correctly, and the device monitors battery temperature to avoid excessive heat.
