Looking for a file to restore
A new iMac, how can I restore a file from previous iMac’s time machine?
the previous time machine isn’t connected and I’m using a new fresh Time Machine

What they are suggesting is migrating your data files from the old computer's Time Machine backup which would migrate all of the data files from the TM backup EHD.

It is out of date as the author passed away some years ago now however much of the information is still pertinent.
