MacBook 2015 Storage almost full

I am new to the Apple community and MacBook. I purchased what I thought would be ample storage three years ago with a MacBook 2015 250 GB of SSD storage. Now after several system updates Apple now owns 212 GB of that storage. Which leaves me very little space for my apps alone. I have offloaded all the pictures files etc. to iCloud storage. Any suggestions on the best way to add memory to this machine? I.e. additional hard drive etc.? My only alternative is to, heaven forbid, purchase a new MacBook Pro?? Any opinions or suggestions appreciated.

Some time doesn't seem right here.

Use OmniDiskSweeper and OmniWeb - The Omni Group

to get an itemized look by size where that 212GB is being used...

My system folder is 10.1 GB After many upgrades.
