wifi greyed out

I am having issues with my wifi button. It is greyed out and I have tried resetting it and turning it off and on but I still cannot connect. Help please?

iPad 2, iOS 9

This could mean the Wi-fi isn't working anymore (and would need repair)

Last thing you could try is a backup* and restore

*be sure to use iTunes on a computer to create your backup - if you try to use iCloud, you may find that you can't due to the Wi-fi issue.
