If your model is defined by information (such as everymac, mactracker, etc)

or collaborated by 'About This Mac' inside your macOS, with such identifiers

with link to the MacBook Air keyboard. And how to tell if yours has one, then

how to adjust the automatic backlight.

You could see if SMC reset can affect the keyboard backlight, if dysfunctional.

reset the SMC system management controller

• Adjust the brightness of your backlit keyboard - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202310

"..To make the keyboard brighter, press F6 on your notebook's built-in keyboard. To make

it less bright, press F5. ~ If you can't adjust your keyboard's brightness manually, it's likely

because you're in a very bright environment and you have your Mac set to automatically

adjust the brightness... In this case, the backlit keyboard turns off.."

..these show the model (short of more 'System Information') to have a Backlit Keyboard..

[..If your model MacBook Air includes the Touchbar, that can control keyboard backlight..]

(You may need to reset the NVRAM if other miscellaneous controls do not work.)
