Problems erasing old users files and documents from Mac

I could not empty my trash because old users files were still in use. How can i manage with this problem?

MacBook Pro 13”, macOS 10.14

User Deletion Problem (User files still exist after deleting the user) I had a user taking up a lot of space on my MacBook, so when I deleted them their files still remained on my machine. I wanted to delete them but obviously I couldn't if their user folder is gone. Any suggestions?

Can I delete contents of /Users/Deleted Users?? I got a new MacBook Pro and migrated my user account and all data from my old one. The new machine is running Catalina. I just noticed that the Deleted Users folder contains the entire contents of my home user directory thus doubling disk usage. My user name is the same on the old and new machine. Is there a way to delete everything from the Deleted Users/ folder? Thanks, Peter

Have you tried a restart to see if you can then empty the Trash? Try holding down the option/alt key while trying to delete the Trash. If that doesn’t work, here is some more information.

Trash – Empty When File is Locked or in Use

Trash won’t empty
