IOS 12.2 Message Notification for one contact showing as tel:+1xxxxxxxxxx

Message notifications for one of my contacts started showing up as tel:+1XXXXXXXXXX. When I look at his messages in the messages app, they show his name correctly. It seems like the message app finds his contact but the notifications does not. Also, they number shows up in a different format than messages I get when I don't have a contact record. Those show up as (XXX) XXX-XXXX.
