iTunes Store on iOS no longer has Genius music recommendations

On all of my iOS devices, in iTunes Store on iOS, Genius no longer has music recommendations. Movies? Sure. Music? No longer. I don't use Apple music, but I do purchase songs on a regular basis. I have Genius enabled. I see this behavior on both 12.2 and 12.4. I see it on multiple iOS devices. I use iCloud Music Library. I use iTunes Match. I have 3k songs. I purchase at least one a week. I've updated the iTunes Library and Genius from my Mac. Nevertheless, iTunes Store on iOS has no recommendations for music. What gives?

OK. It does work for me.

My setup is very similar to yours. So I’ll try to describe my setup hoping we can find the difference and then understand why it isn’t working for you.

  • I also use iTunes Match, and therefore use iCloud Music Library.
  • On my iOS device, in Settings > Music:
    • Show Apple Music is “On”
    • iCloud Music Library is ”Off”. (I want music on my iOS device completely controlled by my iTunes synchronization.)
  • When I do sync using iTunes, I occasionally see what I believe says “syncing Genius data” or similar. I then see a countdown-like display (syncing 479 of 2000 or similar), and the countdown proceeds for perhaps 45 seconds or so.
  • I have an iPhone and an iPad. The above behavior describes how both behave. But interestingly, I sync all my music from my Mac’s iTunes to my iPhone, while my iPad has no music at all. Yet both behave as described above.

Auto downloads: I, too, have that enabled.

I have the opposite of both settings, but have had those settings in place since before this started.

I have manually synced and manually forced an update of Genius data, to no avail.

One other item, in case it’s relevant:

In Settings > iTunes & App Stores, I am signed in using my Apple ID and have Automatic Downloads > Music turned “On”.
