iPhone vibration cycle when plugged into MacBookPro w/USB to Lightening

When I plug my iPhone XS Max (running iOS12.2) into my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) running Mojave 10.14.2 (18C54) using an Apple USB to Lightening cable the phone's haptic vibration goes on and off in a steady pattern roughly once every second and a half while the battery charge indicator pulses with each vibration cycle. This goes on and on and on. I tried swapping to a different USB to Lightening cable and had the same problem until I found a brand new one, and that finally caused the problem to go away. Apparently these cables are fragile and may look perfectly fine while being damaged enough inside to fail in this specific scenario

BTW - If you don't have another cable available and simply want to minimize the nuisance of the constant vibration cycle, you can switch off "System Haptics" in the "Sounds & Haptics" section of the Settings menu, But this only stops the noise of the vibration, the battery charge indicator continues to cycle. You'll still need to find or buy another Apple USB to Lightening cable to fully solve the problem.
