Files disappeared from hidden folder after upgrade to Mojave

Hi!

I had a hidden folder containing some files. I used to unhide the folder using chflags hidden /etc

After upgrade to Mojave I couldn't see this folder anymore. Now I have solved this part and I am able to see it when I use chflags but there is no file in.

Have you got any idea about how to recover these files, if recoverable?

Thanks!

If you do a Get Info on the folder, does it show it contains any files or appropriate size of the missing files?

How about going a Get Info on the folder and making sure either your user name or everyone has Read & Write access?

Have you tried using terminal and using the ls -al (minus A L) command to see if that reveals anything in that folder?

If all else fails you can use EaseUS data recovery software to see if that claims it can restore the files.

Do the file names begin with a dot " . "? If so, then in the Terminal remove the beginning dot " . " and the file should be visible. If you look at the output of the "ls -al" command, what are the permissions listed?

You can use the following keyboard shortcut command to show all hidden files in the Finder: Command + Shift + . (that is a dot!). This will toggle hidden files on and off as mentioned in this article.

Hi !
I have tried ls -al in the folder and it actually shows the presence of my files, but no idea how to get them visible! If i get info I can see that I have all read and write privileges but the size of the content does not match the files which should be in.

Are you running the "ls -al" command on the same folder as in the post I've just quoted from your earlier post which says you saw your data? Because your most recent post showing the contents of a folder shows the folder is empty except for the hidden ".DStore" file used by macOS.

I suggest you look at my previous post and toggle the hidden files "on" so you can use the Finder to navigate to the folder where you data is supposed to reside. Can you see your data when the Finder is toggled to "Show Hidden Files"?
