12.3 iPhone screen wakes up stays lit forever

Ever since I updated my iPhone XS to 12.3, the screen wakes up and stays lit forever while charging.

I can lock the screen manually and it will randomly wake up and stay lit.

Even if I turn my phone over so the screen is face down it will wake up and stay awake. It’s keeping me up at night.

Hello craeg,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with your iPhone and the display not sleeping.

1. Please verify your settings in for when the device automatically locks: Set a passcode on iPhone - Apple Support

"Change when iPhone automatically locks

  • Go to Settings  > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock, then set a length of time."

If it is currently set to the time you wish, I recommend changing it to never, and restarting your device. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

2. Then, change the time to automatically lock back to your specified time, and re-test.

3. If the issue is still occurring after those steps, I recommend making a backup before the next steps. You can make a backup in iCloud or iTunes using this article: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

4. After your data is backed up, since you mention this only started after your most recent upgrade, I recommend reinstalling iOS using iTunes. The reason we need to use iTunes for this step is to get a new copy of iOS installed to your device. Use this article to reinstall the iOS: If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Please pay close attention when you reach step 4. Once iOS is reinstalled, test if the issue is still occurring. Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.
