iMac Pro Randomly Freezes: Odd Solution (Sort of)
I have had an issue for the past year of random freezes. You could still move the mouse but can't click anything and nothing else responds.
Oddly enough, I find that if I have the iTunes visualizer in a tiny window in the corner of the screen, the computer works perfectly without issue. My thought process was that I started to notice that it seemed to crash even when the computer was just sitting there. No software running. So my thought is that it's something to do with the graphics card, I don't know, "falling asleep" or crashing when it has nothing to do.
It would occasionally crash on export from Premiere but I couldn't exclude Premiere as a cause. (You know what I'm talking about Adobe users...haha)
I will say, it ran like a champ right out of the box. it was when I had install all of the software I use that things went south. So I am thinking some incompatibility of something?
Anyway, I find that the system runs A LOT more stable if I have the iTunes visualizer going in a small window just to keep the graphics card "busy". I don't know the facts behind the issue. All I know is this has worked for me.
The next thing I want to try is some type of background changer that slowly animates the desktop background. Anything to keep the screen changing.
