Skype video calling

A friend is trying to call me (video) on Skype from his iMac but the option for video calling is 'greyed out'. He is able, however, to video conference with me from his iPad. We video conference a lot and haven't had this problem until now. Any thoughts as to what the problem might be would be welcomed.
