How do I make the bookmarks pane on the left of Safari to stop showing every time I go to a different web page?

I noticed that Safari started showing me the pane on the left that shows the bookmarks every time I navigate to a new web page. How do I make it so the pane doesn't show anymore?

Have you tried going to Safari/View/Hide Bookmarks Sidebar before navigating to a new web page?
