Hi there
I have a 2015 MacBook Pro with 128GB SSD. I started to run out of space so I bought a 4TB external HDD which I use as a TimeMachine drive and also to store photos and videos from my GoPro and my DSLR on. Is there any way I can get these photos to upload to a folder on my iCloud? These pictures are not part of the Photos library as I use Lightroom to process them first.

You need to enable iCloud Drive in the Finder Sidebar and then manually drag the files from the external to iCloud Drive. Unless the pictures are in Photos, there isn't an automatic sync.

thanks for the reply. How do I enable iCloud Drive in finder sidebar? Also if I drag my files to it, will it copy to my SSD? That may not work because I don’t have enough free space on it 🤔

By hard drive do you mean my SSD? So just to confirm, as I only have 10GB free on my SSD, I will be unable to sync my external HDD with iCloud? Thanks!
You are welcome. It will add the photos to your hard drive. For what you want to do, you need a different cloud based solution such as Dropbox, OneDrive, or Flicker.
To enable iCloud Drive in the Finder Sidebar, open Finder Preferences, then Sidebar/Favorites, and check iCloud Drive.
You are welcome. I meant your SSD when I referred to the hard drive. You can use one of the other suggestions to move the external hard drive data to the cloud.
