How to install Kindle app on an older iPad?

Wiped my 1st gen iPad mini and wasn’t able to reinstall the Amazon Kindle app as the older version was no longer offered through Apple’s App Store. Noticed that many others were having the same issue.

Here is is what worked for me. See reply below.

iPad mini, iOS 9

Since the Kindle app was previously installed it was downloadable through the Apple’s App Store. However, if you attempt to download via a search the App Store will state that it will not work with your current version of the iOS.

The trick is you have to download it under the ‘Purchased’ tab in the App Store. The App Store should state that it’ll have to install an older version of Kindle compatible with the iOS. Hopefully that works for you as it did me.
