Thank you for providing all of the details related to your network. Looks like you have an ideal configuration for AirPlay streaming sans an Ethernet connection between the ATV and ASUS and iMac and ASUS for overall best performance.

Regardless, AirPlay requires both Bonjour and IPv6 to locate the ATV from your iMac. Does your ISP provide you with IPv6 service? If not, you should configure your iMac for IPv6 Link-local only by going to System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced... > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6 = Link-local only. Then verify that your iMac gets a local IPv6 address, that is, one that starts with "fe80".

Did you happen to assign a local IPv4 address to your ATV instead of the default of it getting that address from your ASUS router via DHCP? If not, you may also want to consider doing so to make the ATV "easier" to find for any of your other network clients.

You are welcome. You have MacKeeper and CleanMyMac 2 installed. Most posters recommend not using cleaning programs. They can destroy normal computer operations.

Try downloading this program which was written by Thomas R, a long time poster. The program will search for malware/adware and should remove MacKeeper. The program will do the work for you which makes it easy. It may be necessary to run more than one scan. After running the scans, restart the computer.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac      10.10 and later

Malwarebytes uninstall

CleanMyMac 2 uninstall

Check for any remaining associated files using these programs.

EasyFind – Spotlight Replacement

Find Any File

After removing the above, try going to System Preferences/Users & Groups, note your login items, and then remove them. Restart the computer and do not open any applications except those necessary to test Airplay. See if it works any better. Also try resetting the Apple TV.

Let's start by you providing a bit more information about your current network that you are trying to use AirPlay with an ATV:

  1. What are the makes and models of each of your networking hardware?
  2. How are they basically configured to provide you with your wired/wireless networks?
  3. Which generation is your ATV?
  4. How is the ATV connected to the network ... by Ethernet or by wireless?
  5. Are you streaming from iTunes on your iMac? If so, are the iTunes Library and Media Folder located on this Mac or at a different location? If different, where are they?
  6. Where is the ATV, wireless router, & iMac, in relation to each other when you start a stream?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

I did the resets, I actually persisted and did a all the resets on the 4K ATV numerous attempts, even unplugging but it has not made a difference. The ATV just continues to switch off the music and slide show, with a message My Library is unavailable and try again. If I just play the music, no issues, when I play the slide show that's when the error starts. I hooked a old version ATV and no issues as solid as a rock! Got to say again thanks for your assistance, I appreciate it and I have learned a little on the way, but it appears my 4K ATV has an error in it I can't reset. It's less than a year old so I am going to look for a replacement.

Thanks for taking the time to assist.

Answers to your questions:

  1. Router is ASUS RT-AC68U, IMAC 27inch, Apple TV 4K, Sony TV
  2. Router is Qos switched on and just a basic set-up and the ATV is 4thgen 4K 64GB wirelessly connected.
  3. 4thGen 4K 64GB
  4. Wireless only HDMI cable to Sony TV
  5. I use ITUNES home sharing and stream music and images from the MAC, only that location.
  6. ATV is in living room about 6 metres away from the wireless router which is next to the IMac. This issue started with the new security up-grades. I am on High Sierra.

I completed the changes as you suggested, but it is the same situation. I am playing the music from my library without my slide show and all appears to work, still playing at the moment. I need to check that it plays continually for some time before I am happy though. As soon as I apply the slide show, that is when it falls over. Same message, that my library is not available please try later. After I am happy with the music streaming, I will play the slide show without music and see if that falls over by itself. I am suspecting the combination is the issue or just the images I stream. I moved all my images to another folder and turn off and on for iTunes Home sharing but it did not make a difference. Need to verify if separately they work but just not together!

Again Thanks, any further information or guidance will be appreciated, if you have it.

Hi Eric, I appreciate your time and suggestions to solve this issue.

I did exactly as you requested and could not even get airplay to display in the menu bar! That's for the new account. Got no joy at all.

Got into safe mode and it did exactly the same process (in my account), as if I had log in normally. Airplay is displaying the icon top menu bar on the right near wifi icon, I click on it and it continually displays searching for ATV the straight to "OFF." This is a continuous process.

Hope this gives you an idea. I also note my 4K ATV will not stream images from my iMac correctly. Music alone all good. I also noted that iTunes on my ATV displayed incorrect information about a track in my library, but when I searched the artist it was correct? I am suspecting a bug now. I am not computer savvy like some so bear with me if I have have missed something out that assists.

I applied the home sharing to the ATV which randomly says my library is not available but displays it correctly. I go back in and try again and it flicks off giving the same message. I timed the fall-overs and they vary in times no pattern at all?

Regards

Mitch

Did as you directed, and thanks for that I was well pleased to get rid of the nasties in the system, but it did not make a difference to the ATV. It was then I pulled my old ATV (Not 4K) and hooked it up and it works without an issue. So I believe my 4K ATV has an issue and it all started after the latest up-dates! Airplay still looks for the ATV then goes to off, but I am just happy I can stream images and music, that's why I wanted the ATV, shame the 4K version is not working.
