What is the difference in HDutils "read/write disk image" to "Sparsebundle" or "Sparse"?

What is the difference in HDutils "read/write disk image" to "Sparsebundle" or "Sparse"?


I know, that a

Sparcebundle is build from Fragments of 8MB and a

Sparse is the same, but all in one File only


but what is a "Read/Write disk image?" Whats the difference to the others and when to use?


Could someone explain it?

A read/write disk image is just a regular image that you can write to. You can also make images that are not writable. It is not the first image format Apple used, but it is very old.

It takes up the full disk storage of the size you set when created, as opposed to a sparse image which only takes up what has been stored in it.
