I think I downloaded my picture file from old computer to external hard rice ( Maxone). Once connected to new computer pictures shows “shortcut 1kb” yet when I click on it no pictures actually show? Maxone D shows on this PC but less than 1 gb is used so not sure if I copied correctly? Really want to save pictures please help

Sounds like your "copy" is only an alias (pointer or shortcut) file, one that just says "look over there for the actual data". So no, you apparently didn't copy correctly.

Was this "picture file" by any chance a Photos or iPhoto library on a Mac? Even if you succeeded in copying it to an external hard drive, a Windows PC won't have any idea how to look inside it to see the photos and videos. You will need to use the Mac to export the photos and videos separately to the hard drive.
