Creating a keyboard shortcut

I would just like to know how create my own keyboard shortcut in pages as constantly copying and pasting different symbols into my pages document has become a little tiresome. I've looked at some older posts but they don't seem to work on the new updates. Can anyone help me out? Thank you!

There are three great programs I like to use:

Keyboard Maestro https://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main/ (paid)

Karabiner-Elements https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/14495/ukelele (free app)

Ukelele https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/14495/ukelele (free app)

Some people also like to use TextExpander https://textexpander.com (paid app)

You can even use the Mac's built-in ability to replace words with other words under System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Text. For example, you could set up a Replace-> with pair for something like "cmd" to be ⌘.

I would see if the built-in ability works well enough for you, and then try Ukelele next if you need something more.

Before you start blithely assigning keyboard shortcuts, you should understand the keyboard shortcuts that Pages 8 already offers, so that you do not introduce conflicts. That link content is also available from the Page 8 Help menu.

Basically, if it appears on any Pages menu, and/or does not have a keyboard shortcut assigned, you may be able to add a unused shortcut from System Preferences : Keyboard : Shortcuts : App Shortcuts. The menu item must be typed exactly as it appears on the Pages menu. Note that an ellipsis is added via option+semi-colon on U.S. keyboards.

You can add repeat symbols to the Keyboard : Text panel, where you use unique trigger letters in the Replace column, and the actual replacement character (or words) in the With column. From the character viewer perspective, you would place your cursor in the With field and double-click to insert the special character or character sequence that you want automatically inserted into your document, and then press return to set it. In Pages Edit menu : Substitutions : √ Text Replacement ensures this will occur. There is another text replacement in Pages Preferences : Auto_correction if you want the text replacements unique to Pages 8, and not System-wide. Correct spelling automatically may interfere with these replacements.

Example:

I entered the trigger word followed by a space and it was automatically replaced.
