Apple Pay “Not Authorized” message at Stop&Shop

Hello Everyone,

Is anyone else having issues using Apple Pay at Stop and Shop? I’m getting a “not authorized” message after the reader checks and confirms my touch I.D fingerprint. I have NEVER had an issue using Apple Pay at Stop and Shop until maybe about 2-3 weeks ago.

At first I thought it was due to possibly a defective Pay reader in this specific self-check out lane. But then about a week ago I got the same message when I went to a regular Cashier lane.

In case anyone is wondering I use a CITIBANK debit (Mastercard). I don’t remember the thread but I remember people reporting a similar issue at some Jewel osco store? Don’t remember the name exactly.

Nevertheless one thing I recall in that thread is people talking about possible issues with the “handshakes” between Apple Pay and Citi Mastercards and I believe American Express.

I’ve been using Apple Pay for about 3 years now and LOVE it. But this has been frustrating for me because I shop at this supermarket frequently.

When I pull out the old plastic card that is already stored for Apple Pay it works. Very frustrating. Does anybody have any clue as to what is going on?

I’m able to use Apple Pay everywhere else where it’s accepted except at this store. By the way I’m on my old IPhone 6sPlus. Hope that’s not the reason.... but again this is the first time I’ve encountered this error message at a Store that has been with Apple Pay from the beginning. Thoughts?
