Downloading apps on iPad

Hi, I have an iPad which is connected to my iCloud and I have had trouble downloading apps. Every time I do, it pops up with something along the lines of ‘retry password then but the verified code in’ so I put the password in, and I’m sent the verification code on my iPad, however, the iPad doesn’t allow me to put the code in, as in, the option to type the code does not pop up and just repeats itself with the same message to retry my password.
