Logic board problem after 14 months of use

hello, after 14 months I bought my first Mac Air, it was not booting. I took to the store and after analysis, the logic board has to be replaced. Because the warranty is gone, 485 dollars to fix. I am really upset, because apple is not willing to share the cost, it is not possible the board is gone!! Anyone shared the same problem or can share any idea how to make apple understand that this problem has to be addressed differently?

Although I can't say offer any good ideas on how to get Apple to address this, I would want to be sure that the MacBook Air is truly dead:

  • Does your MacBook Air still even power on?
  • If you hold down OPTION-COMMAND-R or SHIFT-OPTION-COMMAND-R does it allow you to load Recovery Mode successfully off the Internet?
  • If you hold down the D key on power on, does it load the built-in diagnostic? If not, does OPTION-D work to load the diagnostic off of the Internet?

Hello RCosta, this is the diagnosis from apple store. I tried contact with apple call center, apparently in India, and they cannot do anything. The logic board is broken and there is no real effort from apple to support because it is 2 months out of warranty. If you have any contact that I could address the problem it would be nice.

thanks a lot

Before giving up entirely I would suggest getting a 2nd opinion from a hands-on technician.

If you don't know of another service provider you can use this page to find one: https://locate.apple.com to find out if there are any other service providers near you beyond the Apple Store. If any are marked "Premium" (with a star) I would try one of those preferably.

The advantage of a service provider (especially a premium one) is that they actually do such work/examination in-house, whereas the Apple Stores typically only work on iPhone's in-house and forward MacBook repairs to a central service center.

Unless you've had accidental drop damage or liquid damage, it's pretty rare for a 14 month old logic board to fail completely. Rare enough where I would strongly suggest getting such a 2nd opinion.
