SSN?

I received an email that there is a problem with my Apple Payment account and it has been locked for reverification But one item requested was my Social Security number so I stopped. I believe it could be legitimate because I have made a couple of recent changes… However, the request for a Social Security number raises my concern. I can’t find how to contact Apple to inquire whether this is a legitimate inquiry. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

In addition to ckuan's comments, according to: Identify legitimate emails from the App Store or iTunes Store - Apple Support

"Emails about your App Store, iTunes Store, iBooks Store, or Apple Music purchases will never ask you to provide this information over email:

  • Social Security Number
  • Mother's maiden name
  • Full credit card number
  • Credit card CCV code"
