My iTunes are always in shuffle mode, but tend to repeat the same set of songs / artists over and over. I can basically predict the next song it will play. When i check the play vs skip numbers every once in a while some songs were never played and others where played a lot. Any advice?

What I just did was to reset the play count on my MacBook Pro and rated all the songs in my playlist the same. This should create less predictability. To reset the play count, select all the songs at once and then select get info. Now select edit items once that pops up and at the bottom you should see a reset. for the ratings, you should be able to select all again and then like or dislike as a bunch.
If you have rated certain songs higher, or skipped certain songs, it will play the songs you've shown a preference for more often if you have that setting turned on. And the shorter the playlist the more predictable it will be.
I have this same issue. I do not think there is a fix for this. I skip ahead to the songs seldom played and that seems to make it better for a bit. You can send feedback to Apple using this link - Feedback - iPhone - Apple
