TextEdit App

In textedit app I close , unsaved, files from file menu. However, when I open textedit up again they come back as if I never closed them. how to do prevent this from happening?

Stop TextEdit From Opening New Documents In Tabs When working in a TextEdit document, creating new documents opens them in tabs instead of new windows. I think I may have turned this feature on accidentally. In any case, how do I disable it? I don't see any option to do this in TextEdit Preferences. Many thanks.

TextEdit app opening behavior Can anyone tell me if there's a way to change the way TextEdit opens? Rather than open with a blank new document, it now opens to an open app folder window, and I must hit the "New Document" button every time. Aside from confusing me and making me think I'm still in the Finder, it adds an irritating extra step. I'm sure there's a logic to this, but it isn't the way I work, and it adds an irritating extra step. I can't find a way to change this in the app preferences.

General system preferences: Check the box to close windows when quitting an app. That will apply to all apps.
