Since the first time I used Time Machine backup on my iMAC, the backup icon has appeared in the top bar of my iPhone next to the time display. I want to remove the icon from my iPhone. I have disabled the automatic Time Machine backup on the iMAC and removed the icon from view on the iMAC, but it still appears on the iPhone. I don't understand why it would appear on the iPhone in the first place, but I want to remove it. How?

Are you sure you're not looking at the icon that indicates you have the rotation lock enabled?
KiltedKim nailed it. It's the rotation lock symbol you're seeing.
That is impossible, there is now way a Time Machine icon would appear on an iPhone. You are likely mistaking the Time Machine icon for another app.
