ICloud Photo Synch between iOS and MacOS

I’m trying to help my wife with her photo management. What I would like to achieve is the following: Any photos taken on her iPhone will automatically appear in the Apple Photos App on her Mac. When she edits or deletes these photos on either her iPhone or from Photos those edits should apply on her iPhone or Photos App.

Essentially that’s how Adobe Lightroom CC works - and it’s amazing. Can this workflow be achieved with Apple Photos?

She has all the iCloud stuff turned on. But her photos from the iPhone don’t even appear in the Photos App. To be honest - the whole iCloud photo synching is the most confusing cloud based workflow I ever encountered.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Assuming she is using the same Apple ID for iCloud on both devices, if she turns on Settings > [username] > iCloud > iCloud Photos on the phone

and

Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Photos - Options > iCloud Photos on the Mac

then all photos should automatically sync (first sync may take quite awhile) and any future changes on either device should also automatically sync.

Depending on storage space available on each device she may also want to turn on the Optimize Storage option on one or both devices.
