How can I get newer software on my daughters tablet, a lot of apps she can’t download because the update isn’t available.
Example: Netflix won’t allow her to download

They do, but you won’t get much for a first gen model. You might get more selling it yourself.
You will need the business version of iTunes. How to install the business version of itunes on your computer.

In many, but not all instances, you may need to download/install the most recent version of an app to an newer iDevice or older version of iTunes on a computer before being able to get an older, compatible version of app for that 2010 iPad.
My 2010, iPad 1 has over 100 apps on it that are still
functioning, but older versions of apps that I currently run on my
newer iPad models.

There is a "hidden" way of downloading old versions.
#1# Assuming that you previously downloaded the app from the app store. Run app store on your ipad. updates > purchased. When you down load from the purchased section, you will get the version of the app for your device.
#2# How to get a new app you never download, but need a back version. convoluted. Download app on itunes running on a computer or on an idevice that supports the app. Use the same apple id you use on your ipad. Now, go back to the ipad. Follow step #1#. On your computer, do an google search for the app. Pick the app store web page for the app. Click on the View in iTunes button, it's just below the app icon on the upper left. In iTunes, click on the download button under the app icon again on the upper left.
It sounds as though your model is stuck at the latest iOS it can handle. If she wants newer apps, you will need to get a newer iPad.
