  SMC Version (system): 2.30f2

  Hardware UUID: E1F08131-2F4F-52EA-B487-7A012D842182

I've recently purchased a BENQ PD3200U to serve as my external monitor for my laptop. I am having a lot of issues using the Macbook with this monitor. Even though I'm keeping the Benq resolution native I consistently have issues with windows in terms of:

  • Resizing them -- Unless I very carefully line up my mouse, do a long click, and slowly resize; then I am unable to resize my windows
  • Drag and Drop -- When moving windows around, I try to drag them from the top bar and often times this triggers a resize of the window unprompted. As if I double clicked(which I didn't)
  • Slight Lag -- If I keep my macbook pro monitor open and do dual screens, sometimes things can get a little slow. Usually I close my macbook and work from the external monitor alone.

I really like the resolution and quality of this monitor, but I've found using it with my laptop is very challenging. To the point where I've started avoiding using the monitor.

Can anyone help me remedy this situation? All of my peripherals(Mouse, Keyboard, Etc) work fine if I use my macbook alone. Problems only come up with the external monitor.

Thanks!

Had you tried troubleshooting (short of replacement of third party display)

several Support sites such as this may offer ideas on how to get started..

PS: Should you decide among other checks & tests, to toggle between GPUs

and see if this make difference in use (slight chance?) here are a few links to

read more about that aspect.

You may also see if display settings are involved, change them; along with adapters.

I'm not familiar with hardware (in)compatibility, this is an unknown.

Hi, thanks for the links. I looked at these and tried the suggestions. Most the pages seemed to be aimed at video quality issues. But the video quality is fine on my monitor. I tried these anyways and still had issues working with windows effectively.

I'm going to try to toggle between GPU modes next. Though in my activity monitor I think it's engaged? Not sure though, so going to play around with it.

There may be a need to inspect and check into the display adapter you have and see that a

compatibility exists between the macbook and the cabling; also if graphic chipset is adequate.

Both should be, however I am not familiar with the Mac nor the display. ~ You may need to take

the computer along with power adapter, when shopping displays, to test; if allowed by resellers.

Your serial number of macbook is not required to inquire of hardware; for your information there

are sites that can provide the build date production info via serial number lookup. - Do not post.

While your model info suggests a 'dual-graphic chipset' is on the logic board, I've no idea how

that could be tested for best display compatibility; the graphic output can be toggled, and in

some instances that could help. Mostly where power and battery consumption is involved.

There are two rather standard resets suggested to help troubleshoot hardware/software plus

Safe mode on startup, that may help; however third party peripheral displays, etc may not see

any effect from these; cannot hurt to try them. ~ See all details in SMC, NVRAM & Safe start.

Your thread info will likely be edited to remove product serial number from your details.

A replacement set of identifiers can be found in apple site & verified among others online.
