ios 12.3.1 ios mail gmail "Cannot get mail" errors iMAP Mail Server Unable to Respond unable to send out emails too

iPhone X

Immediately after updating to ios 12.3.1 I started getting

The mail server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account ino in Mail settings.

errors.

Tried to send out emails using my three gmails that are set on my iPhone with varying success, mostly emails would get stuck in the outgoing Outbox cue and not sent.

I didn't bother with reentering password or delete/reinstall of the Mail account, from past experience I know that password is not the issue nor will deleting/installing necessarily help.

Instead I restarted the iPhone. Eventually, the gmails engaged and outgoing test emails were sent but it is taking a long time each time to connect to the gmail IMAP account. Incoming emails are not showing up right away in the gmail imap inbox.

Had same problem with AOL email and my Google Contacts. I deleted the AOL account from my iPhone & was eventually able to add my AOL account back but only after I’d used the AOL app for a couple of days. However, when I did the same with my Google Contacts account, I wasn’t able to add it back and lost all my contacts completely. Only a few were saved to iCloud and I couldn’t even find the rest by logging into Google from my laptop, neither did the reset facility work to pick up contacts from before the 12.3.1 installation. I made sure I switched my iPhone contact default to iCloud, luckily found an old iPhone which hadn’t got the 12.3.1 update on it and spent a few hours adding my contacts back manually & weeding out a few! This has never happened before and I hope won’t happen again.

This happened to me too, with sending aol mail since I updated the iOS on my iPad to 12.3.1. It has nothing to do with gmail being down. There’s apparently a bug with this new iOS update. Apple please fix the problem.

I have no problem sending and receiving aol mail on my devices which I did not update to iOS 12.3.1.

I regret doing the update.

Apple should offer a way to reverse an update not leave people stuck with problems as a result of doing an update Apple suggested.
