Why can’t I screen record audio?

I’ve been having issues with screen recording. The videos always record fine but a lot of the times, the audio will not record. I typically screen record from Twitter, YouTube and various places on Safari. Sometimes the video audio will record but sometimes it won’t. I’ve heard of turning on the mic but that picks up way too much background noise to be effective.
