ringtones are not audible
On my wife's iPhone x, calls and texts are received but get no ringtone.

Check to make sure the device is not on Do Not Disturb, the ringer volume is turned up, and that the Mute Switch on the side of the phone is turned to the Ring position (no color showing and switch is towards the screen).
