My macbook is acting like it has a virus

Hi guys, my Macbook Pro is a mess, it's super slow on the internet and keeps getting pop ups galore when I'm in the middle of doing something.

Should i clean-install?

the pop-ups are Chilli-tab and other 'clean your mac' stuff which i know can be a scam.

I just want my machine to work properly again its driving me crazy and very time consuming.

MacBook Pro 13", OS X 10.11

A "clean install" is a bit of a meaningless concept. It's a bit like demolishing your kitchen because of a cracked tile.

Malwarebytes did not get you into this mess. Have you tried it?

If - tho why I can't imagine - you don't want to use it, then download and run EtreCheck. It's a wee utility developed by one of the most senior posters here that takes a snapshot of your system. You can then post the report here (don't worry, it anonymised) and folks may be able to diagnose and help you resolve your issue.

Ok so to post the report is too long here.

So to fix the major issues i have:

No Time Machine Backup - do i really need this? does that slow down the computer?

Adware - obviously i have to remove this

Unsigned Files- remove..

If i buy the Etrecheck step by step guide to fixing these issues does that sort of thing take ages? Or does Malwarebytes clean and sort issues automatically?

As you may have guessed, I'm not very tech-y

Etrecheck is showing you have lots of adware. Use the Remove button from within Etrecheck to remove the adware. Then, I'd suggest you also run Malwarebytes because there are other items flagged as "possibly adware" and I'm not sure of Etrecheck will remove those. Malwarebytes should be able to better identify them.

Also Cisco Videoguard should be uninstalled as per the developer's instructions as it is unnecessary.

After that, restart your Mac and run another Etrecheck report to be sure all the adware has been cleared.
