Keyboard is positioned in the middle of the viewing screen

Tap and hold the little keyboard icon at the bottom right corner. From there slide your finger up to select “Dock”.

No, that “feature” has been around for the last several version of iOS. I’m going to guess, probably iOS 7???

Edit: The feature is even older than I remembered: It actually appeared in iOS 5.
