Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet.

Hello everyone,

I have read through the previous threads on this and have tried the suggested solutions (e.g., removing the com.apple.alf.plist file from the Library and doing the DCHP Renew request). Still no luck.

Right before I lost WiFi connectivity using the Ethernet cable, I had an issue with my iMac not staying asleep - I would put it to sleep and then within seconds it would wake up again. I either enabled or disabled "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when display is off" - I can't remember what I chose. In any case, I believe it was after this that I lost WiFi connectivity via the Ethernet cable. Maybe this not sleeping issue has nothing to do with the Ethernet issue, just thought I'd mention it.

My skill levels regarding are all this are fairly basic. Anyway, any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.

Best wishes, Joe
