Can I use my monitor with the mini display port as a monitor with my new 2018 macbook ?

I'm using a USB-C to 4K DisplayPort cable to connect my early 2016 12" MacBook to a Samsung 4K monitor (model U28E590D). It works like a charm. I also use that cable to connect the monitor to my 11" iPad Pro with great success.

The cable is from j5create and is listed as part number JCA141. I believe I picked it up from Office Depot or Target.
